What we collect
We collect the details needed to quote and fulfil your project. When you submit through the portal we receive:
- Contact details
- Your name, email address, Instagram handle, and your school, firm or organisation. A phone number if you choose to give one.
- Project details
- Project name, deadline, quantity, scale, target dimensions, intended use, and any notes you write.
- Production choices
- Print type, quality level, colour, material and support preferences.
- Your model file
- The geometry itself, plus what our checks measure from it — bounding box, triangle count and whether it fits our machines.
- Job records
- Your quote and approval, requested changes, job status and timeline, preparation and inspection notes, and pickup or delivery details. When the studio verifies an e-transfer, it records the amount, payment reference and confirmation time.
We do not ask for or store payment card details or online banking credentials. Interac e-transfer happens between your bank and ours. The website is not connected to a bank; a studio operator checks the payment before marking it confirmed.
How your model file is handled
This is the part most clients actually care about, so it is the part we are most specific about.
- Used only for your project. We inspect it to prepare your quote. If you approve the quote, we slice it, print it, and finish it.
- Never published. We do not post photographs of client work, and we do not put your geometry in a portfolio, on Instagram, or in any marketing. This is a standing rule, not a case-by-case decision.
- Never reused or resold. Your geometry is not printed for anyone else, not used as a test model, and not shared with another client.
- Not used to train anything. We do not feed client files into machine-learning systems.
- Kept only as long as it is useful to you. Files stay on our systems while the project runs and for a short period afterwards, so a reprint or a revision does not mean re-uploading. Ask and we delete sooner.
If your project is under an NDA or your school or firm has specific handling requirements, tell us before you submit and we will confirm in writing that we can meet them.
Why we hold it
To quote your project, to produce it, to invoice it, and to keep the records a business is required to keep. Nothing is collected for advertising, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
Analytics and cookies
This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Public information pages use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and referrers without analytics cookies. Private customer job pages and the studio dashboard do not load analytics or third-party scripts.
The staff dashboard uses an essential, secure sign-in cookie that expires after eight hours or when the operator signs out. Customer job links use no sign-in cookie: the link is removed from the address bar after opening, and its access token is kept only in that page's memory.
The portal stores your in-progress answers in your own browser so a refresh does not lose your work. The draft stays on your device; answers are sent to us when you submit. Clearing your browser data removes the draft. Your model file is never stored this way.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted. To do any of those, email studio@printbylayr.com from the address you submitted with, and say what you want done.
Deletion requests are actioned within thirty days and usually the same week. The one exception is invoicing records, which we are obliged to retain for tax purposes — those keep your name, the project reference and the amount, and nothing else.
The commercial terms
Deliberately brief, because the specifics belong in your quote rather than in small print here.
- Quotes
- Free, and carry no obligation. A quote states the price, the production time and a delivery date, and is what you are agreeing to when you approve it.
- Payment
- Due after you approve the quote and before production starts. Estimated lead time runs from payment, not from submission.
- Ownership
- Your design stays yours throughout. We claim no rights over anything you send us.
- If a print fails
- Production failures are our cost and we reprint them. If a model fails because of a geometry problem we flagged and you asked us to proceed anyway, we talk to you before spending your money twice.
- Cancelling
- Before production starts, a project can be cancelled and payment returned. Once a model is on a machine, material and time are committed, so it is handled case by case.
Changes and questions
If this page changes materially we will say so here rather than quietly editing it. Anything unclear, or anything you want confirmed in writing before submitting, goes to studio@printbylayr.com — that is a real inbox, answered within one business day.
Updated 18 September 2026: added the job workflow, Resend customer emails, payment-reference records, private customer links and the staff sign-in cookie. Private model storage remains with Backblaze B2.
